With his formal arraignment date having finally arrived, 14 year-old Zachary Proper, from Oil City, entered pleas of not guilty in Venango County Court in Franklin on Monday to charges of criminal homicide in the murders of his grandparents.

Last month, Venango County President Judge Oliver Lobaugh had ruled that Proper would be tried as an adult in the deaths of 70 year-old George Fross and 67 year-old Dorothy Fross at their home on the Polk Cutoff in Sandycreek Township last October.

Proper’s next court appearance is currently slated for September 18.  His attorney reportedly is keeping as an option an appeal of the July decision regarding Proper’s trial as an adult defendant.
