Yet Another Winter Storm Hits; Schools Were Closed Tuesday; I-80 Speeds Dropped

February 18, 2014

Oil Region residents coped with yet another blast of winter on Tuesday morning with accumulations of nearly a foot in some areas, early morning wind gusts approaching 40 miles per hour and slippery, snow-covered roads.

Most schools closed.  The first-round games in the District 9 high school basketball playoffs were postponed until Wednesday.

PennDOT reduced the speed limit on Interstate 80 in Venango and Mercer Counties to 45 miles per hour for part of the day.  An armored truck went off the road on Interstate 79 in Butler County.

Most of the snow accumulation had ended by late morning, and a Winter Weather Advisory which had been posted by the National Weather Service expired during early afternoon.

Meanwhile, with milder temperatures expected for the rest of the week, and rain forecast for portions of the next three days, some residents are already talking about the possibility of flooding.
