A visit by Franklin City Police on Thursday to check up on a woman who had not contacted family members for several days resulted in the woman’s hospitalization, her home being condemned by city officials and the removal of sixteen chihuahua dogs from the residence.

City code enforcement officials say the home on the 1100-block of Elk Street was in deplorable condition, although they did not elaborate on specifics.

At the advice of Community Ambulance Service personnel who responded, the woman who was living in the house was taken to UPMC-Northwest in Cranberry for evaluation.

The dogs were transported to the Venango County Humane Society, and will be checked out by veterinarians.
