UPDATE: Winter Storm Watch And Lake Effect Snow Warning Posted

December 11, 2017
By

The National Weather Service has posted a Winter Storm Watch for the Oil Region, effective from 7:00 PM Monday evening through 4:00 PM Wednesday afternoon.  Inside that window has been posted a Lake Effect Snow Warning from 7:00 AM Tuesday until 1:00 PM Wednesday

Total snow accumulations of 5-to-8 inches are possible in Venango, Forest and Clarion Counties with localized amounts possible up to twelve inches.

In this case, a Winter Storm Watch means heavy lake effect snow is possible with a potential for a large amount of snow in only a few hours.  A Lake Effect Snow Warning means significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel hazardous or even impossible.

Visibility and snowfall amounts can vary greatly.  If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.

The public is urged to continue monitoring weather forecast updates.  The latest road conditions may be accessed by calling 5-1-1.
