Winter Storm Watch Posted For The Oil Region

February 28, 2014

The National Weather Service has posted a Winter Storm Watch, effective from 3:00 PM Sunday until 6:00 PM Monday, due to what NWS officials believe will be a “prolonged snowy period.”

Although some snow is expected during the day Saturday, the NWS expects most of the accumulation to occur between Saturday night and early Monday evening.  The snow through mid-afternoon Sunday should be relatively light with two inches or less of accumulation over most areas.  Snow should fall at a heavier rate on Sunday night and on Monday, and by late Monday afternoon, accumulation totals may be approaching six inches.

As of early Friday afternoon, the National Weather Service said “there is still uncertainty on the exact location where the heaviest snow will fall.”

During the Winter Storm Watch, travel may be severely impacted.
