One of the busiest weekends in the recent times of the Oil Region finds festival activities in Titusville, Franklin and Tionesta, and the conclusions of fair weeks in Franklin and Cochranton.
Titusville’s annual Oil Festival runs Friday and Saturday (Aug. 9 and 10), and will feature a 1950’s theme. Friday activities include a craft show, a 5K race, a wine walk, and a concert featuring “Erie’s piano man,” Matt Gavula. On Saturday, along with the continuation of the craft show, an art show, a car and motorcycle display, a “Zumbathon,” and speeder rides on the OC&T Railroad will be featured. The Oil Festival Parade will be Saturday morning at 11:00 AM. The weekend concludes with Saturday night fireworks.
Aviation and motor vehicles will be featured Saturday from 11:00 AM until 4:00 PM at Wings & Wheels 2013 at Venango Regional Airport in Franklin. The day will spotlight general, light sport and experimental aircraft, classic planes, gyrocopters, antique and classic vehicles, muscle cars, street rods and drag vehicles, trucks, motorcycles and tractors. Sky divers will perform, and airplane and helicopter rides will be available. Also featured will be clowns and activities for children, music and a food booth.
The eight-day Tionesta Indian Festival begins Saturday, and runs through Sunday, August 18. The opening weekend will include a 5K race, a 3-on-3 basketball tournament and a trash-and-treasure day on Saturday, and Tionesta Lake Heritage Day and a praise-and-worship service on Sunday.
The Venango County Fair will conclude on Saturday with daytime activities to include pet shows, a miniature horse pull and the conclusion of the Barnyard Olympics. The 4-H Awards Program at 6:30 PM Saturday evening will be followed by the 4-H Box Social.
Saturday will also be the final day of the Cochranton Community Fair with a horse show, a pet parade, a rabbit dress-up contest, a pedal tractor pull and a kids’ water battle. The concluding night will include a garden tractor pull, a concert and fireworks.
