Tomas Vokoun recorded his 49th National Hockey League shutout Thursday night, stopping 28 shots in the Pittsburgh Penguins’ 3-0 whitewash of the Rangers (3-4) in New York.
Evgeni Malkin, James Neal and Simon Despres scored for the Penguins (4-3 overall), who are now 4-1 on the road. Coach Dan Bylsma’s record against the Rangers at Madison Square Garden improved to 9-2. Pittsburgh has played five of its first seven games on home ice.
Pittsburgh will host New Jersey (3-0-3) on Saturday afternoon (1:00 PM; pregame time on 96.3 KQW 12:30 PM), and will visit Washington on Sunday afternoon (12:30 PM; pregame time 12:00 noon).
