Tomas Vokoun, now 3-0 in postseason play this year, stopped of 36 shots, and Evgeni Malkin and Chris Kunitz both recorded a goal and an assists as the Pittsburgh Penguins opened a best-of-seven series with a 4-1 home win over the Ottawa Senators in the NHL’s Eastern Conference semifinals.
Paul Martin and Pascal Dupuis also tallied goals for the Penguins. Colin Greening scored the lone goal for the Senators. Ottawa goaltender Craig Anderson took the loss, making 26 saves in 30 opportunities.
The goals scored by Martin and Kunitz were both of the power play variety. The Penguins are 9-for-24 on power plays in this year’s Stanley Cup Playoffs. Dupuis’ score came in a short-handed situation.
Game two of the series will be played Friday night at 7:30 PM at Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh. Radio pregame airtime on 96.3 KQW will be 7:00 PM.
