Two Seriously Injured In Franklin Police Chase Ending In Major Crash

June 2, 2017

Two people were taken to a hospital in Erie early Thursday morning following a high-speed chase in Franklin.

Franklin City Police estimate that the driver of the car they were pursuing reached a speed of over 100 miles per hour at one time.

Police say the chase began on Franklin Avenue near the end of the 13th Street Bridge when 33 year-old Travis Semrau, from Franklin, refused to stop for their flashing lights.  The pursuit continued to the bottom of 15th Street Hill and then left onto Buffalo Street.  There, police say Semrau was traveling at his highest rate of speed with his headlights turned off, and they ended the chase due to safety concerns.

Police reports now indicate that Semrau’s vehicle later slammed through a loading bay door at the former Joy Global plant on the lower end of Buffalo Street and into a concrete wall inside the plant.

Semrau and a female passenger were both extricated from the totaled vehicle, and were taken to Erie for the treatment of serious injuries.
