A man with New York ties, who was arrested at an Oil City apartment late last winter, was sentenced last week in Venango County Court to 27 months to eight years in state prison on his convictions last month on charges involving the sales and possession of cocaine and the possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police had claimed that 40 year-old Marco Perez-Garcia was the local head of a drug sales ring connected with individuals in New York.  His arrest in March at an apartment on Smithman Street was reportedly the result of a local investigation that included undercover buys of cocaine.

Perez-Garcia will be given credit for nearly three months time already served.

Police had said that Perez-Garcia was arrested in an apartment leased to 29 year-old Billy Joe Umstead, who was apprehended the same night along with 20 year-old Ryne Kean, from Venus.  Umstead was sentenced on related charges to up to two years in the county jail and two years probation, and is being credited with seven months already served.  Kean had been transported to Clarion County to face charges there.
