A pair of championships were won by Franklin High School swimmers on Wednesday on the first day of the PIAA “AA” swimming championships at Bucknell University in Lewisburg.
FHS junior Phil Emerson started the medal grab with a win in the 50-freestyle. Emerson then joined Andy Frederick, Quinn Heffern and Isaac Cooke in winning the gold in the 200-freestyle relay.
With the Franklin 200-medley relay team of Frederick, Heffern, Connor Virgile and Mike O’Polka taking sixth place, Franklin stood seventh in team points after the first day of competition.
Early in Thursday’s second day, Emerson stood in second place after the preliminaries in the 100-freestyle, and the Knights’ 400-freestyle relay team of Frederick, Heffern, Cooke and Phil Emerson was third.
