Three Meadville-area residents were hospitalized in Erie following a three-vehicle accident near Interstate 79 just outside of Meadville late Monday afternoon.
Police say the incident occurred just west of the I-79 interchanges when a pickup operated by 24 year-old James Karanicolas crossed into the opposite lanes of the highway and struck another vehicle. The second vehicle was knocked into the path of an S-U-V driven by 36 year-old Angela Williams.
Williams had to be extricated from her vehicle. Karanicolas, Williams and a passenger in the pickup, identified as 25 year-old Jessica Dawson were all flown to UPMC Hamot in Erie. Karanicolas was listed in serious condition, while Williams and Dawson were said to be in fair condition.
Routes 6, 322 and 19 were closed for nearly four hours between Routes 102 and 98.
