State Police in Forest County say three area residents died Wednesday night in a one-vehicle crash outside Tionesta.

Troopers say the victims include a 19 year-old Oil City man, identified as Thomas Phelps, 19 year-old Cody Masters, from the Titusville area, and 17 year-old Cody Mohrey, from Tionesta.

Accident investigators say a vehicle driven by Phelps left German Hill Road at an intersection with a road known as Tiger Alley at about 7:30 PM Wednesday.  The vehicle traveled about 85 more feet before slamming into a tree.

Phelps and Mohrey both had to be extricated from the vehicle, and were pronounced dead at the scene.  Masters was flown to an Erie hospital where he died later Wednesday night.

The earliest reports indicated that the youngest victim, Mohrey, had been the driver of the vehicle.  That assertion was later retracted.  The investigation into the deadly crash continues, spearheaded by State Police Troopers from the Marienville station.
