Neil Walker, Gaby Sanchez and Michael McKenry all homered Monday, lifting the Pittsburgh Pirates (10-13) to a 4-3 triumph over the Boston Red Sox in a preseason game in Bradenton, Florida.
Pittsburgh starter James McDonald allowed two first-inning runs before retiring 11 of the next 14 batters he faced.
Both teams recorded seven hits. Boston slipped to 13-10.
The Pirates will take Tuesday off before a game in Kissimmee against the Atlanta Braves (14-11) on Wednesday afternoon.
