Michael Thompson used a 50-foot eagle putt on the third hole of the final round, and a birdie from a bunker on the last hole to win for the first time on the PGA Tour, taking the Honda Classic at the PGA National’s Champion Course in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
Thompson closed Sunday’s round at one-over-par 69 for a four-day total of 9-under-par 271, good for a two-stroke victory over Geoff Ogilivy. He won $1.08 million.
Rookie Luke Guthrie, last spring’s Big Ten Conference champion, finished third at 5-under-par. Keegan Bradley, Lucas Glover, Justin Rose, Erik Compton and David Lynn tied for fourth place at -3.
