A Tennessee man has been jailed in Franklin following investigations by police in both Oil City and Cranberry Township.

State police at the Franklin station say Elton Gilliam, from Maryville, Tennessee, was arrested Wednesday morning after residents in the Riverside Drive area of Cranberry Township made a number of calls calls concerning a suspicious individual who they said had been approaching residents in their neighborhoods.  Troopers say they determined that Gilliam was the man who had been involved in a physical altercation several hours earlier at an Oil City hotel.  Investigators tell KQW that Gilliam’s employer gave them a statement claiming that Gilliam had been attempting to distribute marijuana to other workers at the hotel.

Troopers say they found about ten ounces of marijuana plus drug paraphernalia in Gilliam’s back pack.

A State Police news release says Gilliam was charged with violations of the Act 64 Drug Possession laws.  After his arraignment, Gilliam was lodged in the Venango County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bond.
