At least ten fire companies from as far away as Oil City battled a fire Tuesday at a fiberboard plant near Clarion. Another half dozen companies were kept on stand-by.
The blaze, which reportedly began in a drying area of the Clarion Industries facility in Paint Township near Marianne, was reported around 8:00 AM, and was reportedly a rekindling of a fire that plant employees thought they had extinguished somewhere around 2:00 AM.
Firefighters battled the blaze into the early afternoon, and the department which had received the original call, the Shippenville-Elk Township Fire Company, stayed on the scene until about 3:30 PM.
The Oil City Fire Department was called into service, as were the Clarion and Emlenton departments, for the use of aerial trucks, since the fire was being battled near the very top of the large plant complex. Damage to the upper sections of the facility were described as severe.
No injuries were reported. An investigation is ongoing.
