The Franklin area will be bustling over the weekend with “Taste of Franklin” weekend downtown and the start of the Venango County Fair at the 4-H Fairgrounds on Route 62 west of the city.
“Taste of Franklin” begins Friday (8/1) with Franklin’s 54th annual Old-Fashioned Bargain Days and other events and entertainment at many downtown retail locations. After more of the same activity at retail shops and restaurants and an expanded Farmers’ Market on Saturday, this year’s “Taste of Talent” vocal competition semifinals will be held at the South Park bandstand on Saturday evening at 7:00 PM.
The “Taste of Franklin” taste testing – a chance to “sample Franklin’s finest cuisine” – is scheduled for Sunday from 11:00 AM until 4:00 PM. Sunday’s activities will also include music, children’s entertainment, a motorcycle cruise-in, more Bargain Days sales and the “Taste of Talent” finals at 4:00 PM.
The Venango County Fair opens Saturday (8/2) with the registration of exhibits, a chicken barbecue, the opening of the annual Barnyard Olympics and an evening demolition derby for compact cars and trucks.
Sunday’s activities will include a morning worship service, miniature horse pulls, music from the Slim Brothers, and Lansara Camara and a performance by a balloon artist.
The fair will run through August 9.
