James Southerland scored 20 points to lead Syracuse to a 62-59 win over Pitt in a Big East Conference Tournament quarterfinal game played Thursday afternoon at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Pitt (24-8) had won 9 of their previous 11 meetings with Syracuse.
The Orange shot an amazing 62 percent (12-for-19) from three-point range. C.J. Fair added thirteen points for Syracuse (25-8), who will face Georgetown on Friday night in the tournament semifinals. Notre Dame and Villanova will meet in the other semi.
Lamar Patterson paced Pitt with 14 points, and Tray Woodall recorded 12.
