The Pittsburgh Steelers fired running back and special teams expert Chris Rainey on Thursday following his arrest in Florida in a domestic battery incident.
Police in Gainesville say they arrested Rainey Thursday morning after he allegedly slapped his girlfriend during an argument over a cell phone, and then chased the woman when she tried to run away. Rainey was charged with simple battery.
Officials in Florida say Rainey was court-ordered to community service time and an anger management class following a stalking case in 2010.
Rainey played in all of the Steelers’ sixteen 2012 games, mostly on special teams, and returned 39 kickoffs for a total of 1,035 yards.
