The Pittsburgh Steelers announced Thursday morning that they have signed three more of their nine 2013 draft choices.
The signings of Oregon State wide receiver Markus Wheaton, Illinois cornerback Terry Hawthorne and former Penn State wide receiver bring to five the number of Pittsburgh draft selections who have become Steelers. All agreed to four-year deals.
Wheaton set a school record with 227 career receptions. He is third on Oregon State’s all-time receiving yardage list with 2,994 yards and sixth on its all-time touchdown receptions list with 16. He was the NFL’s overall 79th draft pick.
Hawthorne, the 150th selection, started in 26 of the 44 games in which he played for the Illini. He recorded 163 tackles, 12-and-a-half tackles-for-losses and six interceptions, including two that were returned for touchdowns.
Brown eventually left Penn State to play for Oklahoma. He played in a total of 49 college football games, starting 39 of them. He caught 146 passes for 1,926 yards and eight touchdowns.
