The Pittsburgh Steelers have re-signed running back Jonathan Dwyer to replace injured back LaRod Stephens-Howling.
The Steelers have also come to an agreement with former Tennessee Titans offensive lineman Fernando Velasco to replace injured center Maurkice Pouncey, and signed kicker Shayne Graham as insurance for kicker Shaun Suisham, who has a hamstring problem.
Stephens-Howling, Pouncey and linebacker Larry Foote all suffered season-ending injuries in Pittsburgh’s 16-9 home loss to the Titans in the 2013 season opener on Sunday.
Dwyer was released in the Steelers’ final preseason cut, went through waivers, and was not signed by another team. Velasco’s signing comes after he started all 16 games for Tennessee last season, thirteen of those starts at center, but was cut after this year’s training camp. Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday Velasco will back up Kelvin Beachum, who will start for now at center.
The Steelers would be Graham’s 10th NFL team. At 85.4 percent, he is the seventh most-accurate kicker in league history.
For now, it appears that 12 year veteran Kion Wilson, who did not play in the NFL last year, will replace Foote as a starting inside linebacker.
