Rookie running back Giovani Bernard ran for a pair of touchdowns Monday night and the Cincinnati Bengals defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 20-10 in a game played in Cincinnati.
Mike Nugent added two field goals for the Bengals as Cincinnati improved to 1-1, tying Baltimore for first place in the AFC North. The Steelers dropped to 0-2, the first time they have started an NFL season with back-to-back losses since 2002.
The Steelers scored on a one-yard touchdown pass from Ben Roethlisberger to Derek Moye, and on a 44-yard field goal by Shaun Suisham.
Roethlisberger completed 20-of-37 passes for 251 yards with one interception. His Cincinnati counterpart, Andy Dalton, was 25-for-45 for 280 yards.
With Pittsburgh running the ball only 16 times, Felix Jones rushed for 37 yards. BenJarvus Green-Ellis picked up 75 rushing yards for the Bengals. The Steelers’ Antonio Brown caught six passes for 57 yards, and teammate Emmanuel Sanders recorded five receptions for 78 yards. For Cincinnati, Jermaine Gresham and A.J. Green both caught six passes, with Gresham totaling 66 receiving yards and Green 41.
The Steelers will host the Chicago Bears (2-0) on Sunday night at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh.
