The Pittsburgh Steelers dropped an 18-13 home decision to the New York Giants in their preseason opener on Saturday night in a game in which only one offensive touchdown was scored.

The Giants’ Eli Manning threw a 57-yard scoring pass to Victor Cruz late in the first quarter for that lone offensive six-pointer.  New York also scored on a safety and on three field goals by Josh Brown.

Pittsburgh’s lone touchdown came on a recovered fumble in the end zone.  Shaun Suisham added two field goals.

All four of the Steelers’ quarterbacks saw action.  Landry Jones completed 5-of-9 passes for 48 yards;  Ben Roethlisberger went 4-for-8 for 36 yards; Bruce Gradkowski had a 6-for-11 night with 35 passing yards; John Parker Wilson finished up by going 4-for-5, also for 35 yards.

Pittsburgh’s leading receiver was Justin Brown with four catches for 32 yards.  LaRod Stephens-Howling carried the ball seven times to lead Pittsburgh with 40 rushing yards, as the Steelers sat out draft pick Le’Veon Bell who had a sore left knee.

The Steelers will play at Washington on Monday night (Aug. 19).
