Officials of the union representing some 5,500 faculty members at state system universities say some 95 percent of their members who voted earlier this week on a new contract proposal approved the pact.

The faculty members, represented by the Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculties, had been working without a current contract since June, 2011.

The four-year pact calls for concessions on health care, but it includes pay raises of one or two percent in each of the last three years.

The board of the State System of Higher Education is scheduled to consider ratification of the contract on March 20.
