A State Police trooper involved in a motor vehicle crash that took the life of an Edinboro man entered a plea of “no contest” on Monday to a charge of homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence.
36 year-old Jeffrey D’Alessandro, of Canonsburg, will be sentenced on April 25.
In exchange for his plea, other charges, including involuntary manslaughter, careless driving and reckless driving were dismissed.
D’Alessandro admitted he had been drinking on February 8 of last year when his car crossed the center line of Route 6 in Erie County and struck a vehicle driven by 21 year-old Daryl Nunemaker.
D’Alessandro spent nine years in the Pennsylvania State Police, but has been suspended without pay since the fatal crash. His superiors say he will now officially lose his job with the force.
