The state House of Representatives last week approved a tax break for timber harvesters intended to help lumbermen remain competitive.
The bill would amend the state Tax Code to exclude the purchase of machinery, parts and equipment used in the timber harvest industry. The easement is being compared to tax exemptions enjoyed by farmers on tractors, feed, fertilizer and other items.
The measure was sponsored by state Representative Matt Gabler, from Clearfield County. The bill was sent on to the state Senate.
