State Senator Wants Snow Clearance Law To Apply To Drivers Of Large Trucks

December 18, 2013

A state lawmaker wants to require the drivers of bigger trucks to also be subject to a law that would require them to clear snow and ice off their vehicles or risk getting pulled over.

Under Pennsylvania law, you and I can be fined if snow or ice flies off our vehicles and results in injuries to others.  State Senator Lisa Boscola insists that police in Pennsylvania should not have to wait until someone is hurt by snow or ice from a truck before they can act.

Boscola told Radio PA News she is introducing a bill in Harrisburg that would allow police to issue citations to drivers of rigs when it is felt that an accumulation of ice or snow on a large truck could pose a threat to people or property.  Such drivers could then be subject to fines of $25 to $75 for each offense.

The bill would apply to trucks with a gross weight of over 24 tons.
