Now added to the numerous pieces of legislation in Harrisburg concerning the use of marijuana, including bills to legalize pot for medical and/or recreational uses, is a measure that would lessen the penalties for the possession of small amounts.

Under state Senator Mike Stack’s bill, the first two convictions on the charge of possession of under an ounce of marijuana would be processed as summary offenses.  District attorneys would make the decision on whether or not to file criminal charges for a third offense.

Stack is also proposing a way to make it easier for individuals to eventually have their records expunged of convictions for the possession of small amounts of marijuana.

Stack is a Democrat from Philadelphia, and is a candidate for Lieutenant Governor.
