State Republicans Draw New Congressional Map; Democrats Urge Gov. Wolf To Reject

February 12, 2018
By

Pennsylvania’s House and Senate Republicans have submitted a new Congressional districting map which Democrats have already asked Governor Tom Wolf to reject.

The map was drawn up over just two days to beat a Friday night deadline mandated by the state Supreme Court who recently threw out the old map, declaring it unconstitutional and saying it favored Republicans.

Radio PA News reports the map was drafted by House Speaker Mike Turzai and President Pro Tem Joe Scarnati without any input from minority Democrats.

Some Democrats have charged GOP leaders with blocking the process and refusing to negotiate.

A spokesman for Governor Wolf says he is still reviewing the proposed new map.  The state Supreme Court has said it wants a map submitted by Thursday or they will draw up a map themselves.
