State Life Jacket Regulation Includes Smaller Boats, Starting November 1

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission reminds us that the state regulation regarding the mandatory use of life jackets on smaller boats goes into effect Friday (Nov. 1).

The law, which was enacted last year, mandates that anyone in a boat, canoe or kayak under 16 feet in length must wear a Coast Guard-approved personal flotation device during the cold weather months, specifically from November 1 through April 30.

The regulation is in effect regardless of whether the craft is traveling or at anchor.
