The Department of Environmental Protection began the state’s annual black fly control aerial spraying program on Monday with treatments in four eastern Pennsylvania counties.
Some 1,500 miles of 45 waterways in 32 counties will be sprayed, targeting the larval stages of four specific black fly species. The program will continue through August.
Waterways in this part of the Oil Region that will eventually be sprayed include the Allegheny River, Clarion River, French Creek, Oil Creek, Sandy Creek, Sugar Creek and Tionesta Creek.
