A small group of state lawmakers is renewing the debate over taxing the production of Marcellus shale natural gas.

A pair of moderate Republicans and two Democrats want the legislature to reconsider a severance tax on Marcellus shale production, instead of the current per-well impact fee.  Governor Tom Corbett has always ruled out such a tax.

State Representative Eugene DiGirolamo, from Bucks County, told Radio PA News this week he wants a debate on the issue.  He says nearly every other state with Marcellus shale drilling has a severance tax.
