Travis Snider homered for the first time this season, and Francisco Liriano (2-0; 1.64 ERA) pitched six hit baseball over 5-and-two thirds innings on Thursday night as the Pittsburgh Pirates posted a 7-1 home win over the Milwaukee Brewers (16-23).
The Pirates (24-17) have won three straight over the Brewers, and six of their last seven games overall.
Snider finished the night with three hits, three RBI’s, two runs scored and a stolen base. Starling Marte, Andrew McCutchen, Garrett Jones and Russell Martin all posted two hits. McCutchen, Jones, Neil Walker and Clint Barmes posted RBI’s.
Liriano struck out seven batters and walked three in his second start for his new team. He beat Hiram Burgos (1-2; 6.58 ERA), who left the game after five innings. Burgos surrendered three runs and eight hits, striking out three Pirates batters and walking one.
Jean Segura recorded two hits for the Brewers, and Jonathan Lucroy drove home Milwaukee’s only run.
On Friday night, the Bus will host the Houston Astros (11-30) in the first game of a three-game series which is now an interleague affair. Jeanmar Gomez (2-0; 2.28 ERA) is scheduled to start for Pittsburgh against Jordan Lyles (1-1; 8.36 ERA).
