Smith-Schuster Suspended For One Game By The NFL; Cincinnati’s Iloka Fined For Hit On Antonio Brown

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster has been suspended for one game by the National Football League for a vicious hit on Cincinnati linebacker Vontaze Burfict – a long-time Steelers nemesis, and for standing over and taunting Burfict after the play in the Steelers’ come-from-behind win at Cincinnati on Monday night.

Burfict left the game with a concussion.

The NFL said Smith-Schuster’s actions “fell far below the high standards of sportsmanship expected of an NFL player.”

An appeal of the suspension by Smith-Schuster was already heard on Tuesday afternoon.  The ruling was upheld by the league’s suspension officer.

Meanwhile, the league lifted their one-game suspension on Bengals safety George Iloka for one game for a hit to the head of Pittsburgh wide receiver Antonio Brown during a touchdown catch by Brown late in Monday’s game.  Brown was not injured on the play.  Instead, Iloka will be fined $36,000.

The NFL stated that Iloka’s hit “has no place in our game.”
