Seven people died and 315 others were injured in 1,336 vehicle crashes investigated by the Pennsylvania State Police over the Christmas holiday traffic period.
The State Police say 108 of the accidents they investigated were considered alcohol-related.
Last year, during the same five-day travel period (Dec. 21 – Dec. 25), five people died and 169 were injured in 509 crashes.
Officials say two of the people who died this year were not wearing seat belts. Troopers made nearly 350 D-U-I arrests, and cited more than 2,100 drivers for speeding.
The numbers cover only those incidents covered by the Pennsylvania State Police, and do not include statistics from other law enforcement agencies.
