A second man has been sentenced in the assault of an Oil City man during an incident at the victim’s apartment on Seneca Street last November.
26 year-old Kevin Meagher was sentenced last week to seven months to two years in the Venango County Jail and to three years of probation. Last month, 23 year-old Shane Vitka, also from Oil City, was sentenced to serve up to two years plus four years probation in the same incident.
Charges against both men included simple assault and theft by unlawful taking. They entered guilty pleas to the charges against them in court proceedings in March. Charges of robbery against both men, and a second count of assault against Vitka were dismissed in plea bargains.
Meagher was accused of threatening a third man with a B-B gun. Prosecutors say Vitka then hit the victim with an item which may have been a set of handcuffs. Police had said that the men left the apartment with the B-B gun, which belonged to the victim, and with other items. They were arrested at a local convenience store some three days after the incident.
