Steven Souza homered to lead off the top of the ninth inning to give the Harrisburg Senators a 5-4 win over the Erie Seawolves on Wednesday night in the first game of a best-of-five Eastern League playoff series played at Jerry Uht Park in Erie.
Playing in the postseason for the first time in six years, Erie led 4-3 after seven innings. But, Harrisburg knotted the score in the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Billy Burns. Souza’s ninth-inning shot off Seawolves reliever Melvin Mercedes put the Senators on top.
Game two will be played in Erie on Thursday night at 6:35 PM with Warwick Saupold (7-6; 3.28 ERA) scheduled to take the mound for the Seawolves against the Senators’ Taylor Hill (2-7; 2.71 ERA). The remainder of the series, regardless of how long it is extended, will take place in Harrisburg.
