The state legislature this week sent to Governor Corbett’s desk a bill connected to school safety.

The measure, sponsored by state Senator Don White whose office represents Armstrong County and parts of Butler County, would allow school districts the option to contract out to local police departments to provide school security, and not limit them to agreements with just the State Police.

White says many school districts are located many miles from a State Police station, and this measure would reduce response times to school facilities in the event of emergencies.
