Route 8 in the Forestville area was closed to traffic Tuesday morning due to a multi-vehicle accident.  The driver of the tractor-trailer that initiated the collisions was seriously injured.

The crash occurred at about 8:30 AM at the Forestville railroad underpass between Barkeyville and Harrisville.  Route 8 was closed after the incident between Boyers Road and Browntown Road.

Accident investigators say the driver of the tractor-trailer jack-knifed his rig when he tried to quickly brake behind a car making a left turn onto Station Road.  The empty rig was hit by a loaded log truck, which then was knocked into a dump truck that was hauling a load of slag.  The lead car apparently was not involved in any of the collisions.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, identified as 71 year-old Donald Walker, from Jerome in Somerset County, was rushed to a Youngstown hospital, where his medical condition was not immediately made public.  Eyewitnesses say the other two drivers, identified as 52 year-old Thomas Schwab, from Oil City, and 20 year-old Gerald Rodgers, from Butler, were not hurt.
