Justin Rose captured the Quicken Loans National golf tournament with a par putt on the first playoff hole after Shawn Stefani’s second shot on the hole found the water at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland.
Ironically, Rose had found the same water hazard on the final hole of regulation play, and that problem had forced the playoff.
Both golfers played Sunday’s final round at one-under-par 70, to tie through four rounds at 4-under 280. Charley Hoffman and Ben Martin both finished one stroke behind the playoff qualifiers.
Rose won for the first time since last year’s U.S. Open, pocketing $1.17 million.
Meanwhile, the early tournament focus on the return to competitive play by Tiger Woods ended on Friday when Woods missed the cut by four strokes.
