The fourth alternate to the weekend’s event, PGA Tour rookie Derek Ernst wrapped up his Sunday with a four-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole, and walked away with his first tour win, at the Wells Fargo Championship at the Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte.

Ernst won $1.206 million.

Ernst and David Lynn both fashioned final-round scores of 2-under-par on Sunday, and tied through regulation at 8-under-par 280, one stroke better than Phil Mickelson, who shot a 73.

Lee Westwood and Robert Karlsson tied for fourth place at -6.
