The Pittsburgh Steelers have announced that quarterback Ben Roethlisberger underwent what the team called “minor surgery” on his right knee on Wednesday.

In a statement released concerning Roethlisberger early Wednesday afternoon, the Steelers stated that, due to some discomfort the quarterback had experienced in the offseason, ”We advised him to get the surgery done to ensure he will be completely healthy for the start of training camp,” and added, “This surgery will have no long-term effect on his health.”

Roethlisberger reportedly underwent a procedure to clean the results of cartilage damage in his right knee.  Steelers training camp is slated to begin in late July.
