Residents Review Options For Change In Franklin Area School District

A meeting concerning proposed major changes in the Franklin Area School District on Wednesday covered not only the possibility of the closing of another elementary school in the district, but also a proposal to change the geographic boundaries that determine the specific schools that students attend, and a plan to change the class hours at both the elementary level and at Franklin Area Junior-Senior High School.

The potential class hour changes were just unveiled at the school board’s most recent meeting.

The proposal to close Utica Elementary School would follow by just a couple of years the shutdown of Franklin’s Seventh Street Elementary School, which now houses the district’s administration offices.  Another proposal would result in the transfer of the district’s sixth-graders to the junior-senior high school.

A task force will be formed to review the input given by those who attended Wednesday’s meeting – feedback that, by the way, will soon appear on  the district’s website.
