Responding to the state’s legislature’s passage of an on-time state budget for the third straight year and Governor Tom Corbett’s signing of the spending plan on Sunday night, state Representative Lee James, from Oil City, says he is pleased that it is a fiscally conservative budget that also provides support for education and public safety.

Concerning the positive aspects of the spending plan, James noted it contains the highest dollar amount of support ever for basic education, and it includes funding for a class of about 300 new State Police troopers.

James added that he is proud to have supported a budget that contains no increase in the personal income tax.  The levy will remain at 3.07 percent.
