A race driver from Punxsutawney was rushed to a Pittsburgh hospital on Sunday after he was burned in a fire in his car at a race track in Knox.

20 year-old Darren Pifer reportedly suffered second- and third-degree burns when his race vehicle caught fire at Sportsman’s Speedway on Sunday.  An eyewitness said there was also a delay in getting Pifer freed from his vehicle because of a steering malfunction as he tried to pull off the track.

Pifer posted from his hospital bed on Monday morning that he has been told by medical officials that he suffered burns over twenty-three percent of his body.  Pifer’s fans can reach him through his Facebook page, or through UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh.
