Punxsutawney Phil Predicts An Early Spring

In Jefferson County on Saturday morning, famed groundhog Punxsutawney Phil emerged from his burrow and did not see his shadow.

Legend maintains that lack of a shadow during the traditional February 2 event in Punxsutawney means Phil’s weather prediction is for an early spring.

It was only the sixteenth time in more than 125 years of prognostications that Phil opted for an early end to winter.  Meanwhile, some early forecasts for the crowd numbers for Saturday’s festivities topped 30,000 since this year’s Groundhog Day fell on a Saturday.
