The state’s Public Utility Commission updated the House Appropriations Committee this week on the Marcellus shale impact fee as the commission prepares to collect and distribute the fee for a second year.
The PUC had a quick turnaround to collect money from the impact fee on natural gas drilling and to distribute it to counties and local municipalities by early December. Now, they are preparing to do it all again.
Drillers must submit the fees by an April deadline this year. PUC chairman Robert Powelson estimated to the committee that, in July, another round of about 180 to 190 million dollars in impact fee money could be distributed.
The money is to be received by local governments by July 1.
