A state lawmaker from Chester County says he will introduce a bill in Harrisburg that would require Pennsylvania legislators to actually submit receipts before they can be reimbursed for travel, meal and lodging expenses.

Currently, only five states have such a requirement.  Otherwise, as in Pennsylvania, documented vouchers are not mandated.

Republican Dan Truitt said this week his legislation would not bar lawmakers from claiming expenses, but would require that they submit receipts.

Recent reports have indicated that Pennsylvania lawmakers last year submitted as many as 162 per diem requests for the 12-month period, even though the state House was in session for just 67 days and the Senate for 59 days.  However, many lawmakers were eligible for extra days during which they served on committees.
