The Detroit Tigers on Wednesday evening traded first baseman Prince Fielder to the Texas Rangers in exchange for second baseman Ian Kinsler.
The Rangers will also receive $30 million in “cash considerations” to cover part of the $168 million that Fielder will still be owed over the next seven seasons.
The 29 year-old Fielder hit .279 with 25 home runs and 106 RBI’s this past season. Kinsler, 31, batted .277 with 13 homers and 72 RBI’s.
Two-time defending American League MVP Miguel Cabrera would be moved from third base to first base for the Tigers, and promising prospect Nick Castellanos would probably play third base.
